A man in his 20s was arrested after allegedly assaulting his parents inside their home on the eve of the Lunar New Year and wandering the building corridor with a weapon.
On February 17, the Yangpyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that it had apprehended the suspect, identified only as A, on charges of injury to a lineal ascendant and possession of a weapon in a public place. He was taken into custody as a suspect caught in the act and placed under emergency hospitalization measures.
According to authorities, A allegedly assaulted his parents, both in their 60s, at their residence in Yangpyeong County at around 11:30 p.m. on February 16, the day before the Lunar New Year. He is then believed to have taken a weapon from the home and roamed the apartment corridor. Fortunately, police said that while wandering the hallway, he did not swing the weapon or threaten nearby residents.
Officers repeatedly ordered A to drop the weapon, but when he failed to comply, they subdued him by deploying a Taser. A police official stated, “A is currently in a condition that makes it difficult for him to provide a normal statement due to an illness,” adding, “With the family’s consent, we have taken emergency hospitalization measures.”
