As of May 14, it has been confirmed through MBN's investigation that Son Heung Min, star forward for English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, has been the target of ongoing blackmail by a woman who falsely claimed to be pregnant with his child.
According to reports, Son’s representatives filed a formal complaint on May 7 with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, accusing a woman in her twenties, identified as Ms. A, of fabricating a pregnancy in June last year and demanding several hundred million KRW in exchange for not revealing it publicly. Son’s side stated that Ms. A used the false claim to threaten Son repeatedly, attempting to extort large sums of money.
In a further development, a man in his forties, identified as Mr. B, is also believed to have been involved in the scheme. Beginning in March this year, Mr. B allegedly contacted Son’s representatives and threatened to go to the media with the pregnancy story unless he was paid tens of millions of won.
Believing the pregnancy claim to be entirely false, Son Heung Min’s side refused to meet their demands and instead turned to legal action.
Police have since booked both Ms. A and Mr. B on charges of attempted extortion and have launched a full investigation.
According to MBN News, authorities have applied for arrest warrants for both individuals in an effort to secure their custody.
Investigators are also examining whether any money was transferred to the suspects under coercion. The case remains under active investigation by the Seoul Gangnam Police.
