Arizona law enforcement officials announced Monday, March 24, that an SUV matching the description of the vehicle carrying three missing South Korean family members has been located near the site of a deadly pile-up on Interstate 40 near Williams, Arizona. Additionally, more human remains have been discovered.

Investigators confirmed that one of the vehicles involved in the March 13 crash was a BMW SUV. The last known vehicle used by Kim Jung Hee (age 54), Kim Tae Hee (age 59), and Lee Ji Yeon (age 33) was a white BMW with a California license plate. However, authorities have not yet identified the recovered remains.

According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash involved 18 vehicles and triggered a fire that burned for over 12 hours, completely destroying all cars involved. Due to the extent of the damage, DPS stated that identifying remains will require a meticulous forensic examination. At least two fatalities have been confirmed.

The missing family was last known to be near the crash site. They had visited the Grand Canyon on March 13 before heading toward Las Vegas. A cellphone ping placed their rental car just a mile from the accident scene.
