AKP STAFF

Are you an introvert in search of solo-friendly dining options in Korea? Finding restaurants where you can comfortably eat alone can indeed be a task. Fear not, as we've compiled a list of seven of the finest eateries that provide a perfect ambiance for some 'honbab' or solo dining.

1. Halmuni Bossam: If you're a fan of the sumptuous Korean pork dish called 'bossam', then this place is a must-visit. Translated as 'Grandma's Bossam', Halmuni Bossam offers an authentic, affordable experience. For only 7,000 won per person, you get the pork dish set along with a variety of enticing side dishes.

2. Namdaemun Kalguksu Alley: Noodles are regarded universally as the ultimate comfort food, and Kalguksu is indisputably one of the most soothing noodle soups around. At this eatery, you can enjoy Kalguksu (knife noodles), along with other delectable dishes like bibimbap and cold noodles.

3. DaDam: Specializing in sundubu jjigae or soft tofu stew, DaDam also offers marinated clams, bulgogi, and an impressive assortment of vegetable side dishes. This place strikes a chord with every Korean food lover.

4. PullpChae Korean Buffet: Don't let the word 'buffet' mislead you into thinking of large group gatherings. At PullpChae, you can relish a bit of everything even if you're dining alone. It’s a paradise for the gastronomically adventurous.

5. Noryangjin Cup Bap Street: While not exactly a restaurant, Noryangjin Cup Bap Street offers a veritable feast of different steamed rice bowls. Choices range from spam and egg, to flavorful samgyupsal cup bap – there’s certainly something to tickle everyone's palate.

6. Gyeongbokgung Naju Gomtang: Treat yourself to soothing, boiling hot Korean beef bone soup. Complimented for its distinct flavor, this restaurant's beef bone soup has earned accolades for its deep flavor, perfectly produced by cooking the broth with the meat inside.

7. YeonAn: If you fancy something a little more unconventional, visit YeonAn. As a seafood-based restaurant, one of its top attractions is the loach bibimbap. For the seafood lovers, this place is a dream come true.

Embrace the solo dining experience! It's not just about eating alone, but also about savouring every bite, enjoying your own company, and relishing mealtime at your own leisure. Happy honbab!

Translating Kalguksu as "knife noodles" is misleading, it's usually "knife-cut noodles" or "chopped noodles" because the noodles are cut in a random, non-uniform way when it's made.
