Woman receives penalty for jabbing her fingers into a middle school student's eyes

Buzz

A woman in her thirties has received her penalty for assaulting a middle school student.

Back on December 26 at 6:45 PM, the woman was sitting in an intercity bus that had stopped at an intercity bus stop, where she said to a girl who, at the time, was a first year in middle school, "What are yo looking at, you ***?" cursing at her before using her two fingers to jab her right below each eye.  The student had been badly scratched by the woman's nails, resulting in wounds that lasted two weeks.

It turns out that the girl kept looking behind her in order to see if her friends were following her down, evoking the wrath and attack from the woman who was sitting right behind her. After the police checked the CCTV, they managed to get ahold of the woman in about two weeks.

At the time, she originally was summarily indicted with a fine of 1 million KRW (~ 840 USD), but the case was changed to a case on merits and she went into an official trial.  It turned out that 30 minutes before the incident, the bus driver had cursed at her son, telling him to quickly get on the bus, which had angered her and she had taken it out on the girl in front of her.

The victim's parent stated, "The wound was treated, but after the injury, she was so traumatized mentally that she's receiving counseling because of stress and she dislikes going out.  This is so unfair it makes me angry."

The presiding judge stated, "The victim did not look at the defendant or talk in whispers, but the defendant misunderstood and pierced her in the areas below both her eyes. There's a need for her to strongly take responsibility because she has a previous conviction of the same kind, she did not put in effort for the victim's recovery, and she injured a young victim."  She was fined 3 million KRW (~ 2,500 USD), which she protested and appealed.
