Singer-songwriter Jooyoung has officially kicked off a new chapter in his career with the release of “Sex Genius,” signaling a striking departure from the R&B sound that first defined him.
Unveiled on April 6, “Sex Genius” introduces a raw, instinct-driven energy rooted in alternative rock and classic rock and roll influences. The track captures a visceral moment where movement precedes thought, leaning into impulse, physical sensation, and the exhilaration of being fully present. With its gritty edge and unfiltered emotion, the single breaks away from the sonic framework Jooyoung has maintained since his debut, setting the tone for a transformative new era.
Jooyoung first emerged in 2010 as a standout voice in Korea’s R&B scene, earning recognition for his distinctive tone and refined musicality. Over the years, he has built a diverse portfolio through collaborations with artists such as Hyolyn, pH-1, and Heize, while also releasing projects including Fountain EP and Sphere. Beyond his solo work, Jooyoung has contributed as a producer for acts like Monsta X, Moonbin & Sanha, and Cravity, solidifying his reputation as a multifaceted artist.
Following years of experimentation and growth, including a tour spanning seven countries and a steady independent career path, Jooyoung now returns with renewed artistic direction. His recent live performances across clubs and festivals in Korea alongside his project band fish dish have further shaped this evolution, blending live instrumentation with a more liberated stage presence.

With “Sex Genius” as the starting point, Jooyoung is set to continue this momentum with a new album slated for summer 2026. Drawing heavily from alternative rock and rock and roll, the upcoming release is expected to push boundaries and embrace a more provocative, uninhibited sound.
As Jooyoung steps into this redefined identity, his latest comeback marks not just a return but a bold reinvention.
