Ha Ji Won opened up about her dramatic physical transformation for her role in the ENA drama ‘Climax.’
Ahead of the show’s finale, Ha Ji Won sat down for an interview on April 6 in Sangam, Seoul, where she shared behind the scenes details about portraying her character, Chu Sang Ah.
In ‘Climax,’ Ha Ji Won plays a once top star actress who has fallen from grace. She explained, “The director wanted Sang Ah to be a very sensitive character, someone who is extremely slim but also well maintained as an actress. So I lost some weight and adjusted through fittings.”
She added, “Many of her outfits are slip style dresses, and I wanted them to look slightly loose, so I lost even more weight. Since I naturally build muscle easily, it was actually very difficult to lose muscle.”
Ha Ji Won revealed that she intentionally avoided walking much and focused heavily on stretching instead of exercise. “If I work out, I gain muscle quickly, so I put a lot of effort into stretching to create a slimmer look,” she said.
She also shared that her weight dropped by about 5 kilograms, going from around 50 kg to 45 kg, surprising many.
Addressing health concerns, she clarified that she focused on slimming down muscle rather than unhealthy weight loss, adding, “These days, I’ve started running again and am gradually returning to my normal routine.”
‘Climax’ follows the story of prosecutor Bang Tae Seob, played by Ju Ji Hoon, who enters a powerful cartel in pursuit of the top, and the intense survival battle surrounding him.
Ha Ji Won’s portrayal of Chu Sang Ah, a complex and ambitious character, has drawn attention for its bold transformation, including provocative storylines and evolving dynamics with other characters.
