ASTRO member and actor Cha Eun Woo has addressed his recent tax controversy and confirmed that all related taxes have been fully paid.
On April 8, Cha Eun Woo shared a statement through social media, apologizing for the concerns surrounding alleged tax issues. He wrote, “I sincerely apologize for causing disappointment and confusion to fans and many others due to the recent tax controversy involving me.”
He continued, “I respect the procedures and results of the National Tax Service and have paid all related taxes to prevent further confusion. I will also faithfully comply with any remaining procedures.”
Cha Eun Woo also took full responsibility, stating, “If there were aspects I failed to thoroughly review, the responsibility lies entirely with me. I will not make excuses by saying I did not know or that it was someone else’s decision.”
He explained that he had established a corporation during a period of change in order to manage his activities more stably, but acknowledged that there were areas he did not carefully review during the process. He emphasized that the responsibility does not lie with his family or company, but solely with himself.
Previously, Cha Eun Woo became embroiled in controversy following allegations of tax evasion involving a corporation established by his mother, with reports stating that approximately 20 billion KRW (around $15 million USD) in taxes had been imposed. Questions regarding intent further intensified the issue.
Concluding his statement, Cha Eun Woo expressed deep regret toward his fans, saying he will reflect on himself and ensure stricter standards moving forward to prevent similar issues from happening again.
