On March 5, the World Baseball Classic Pool C group-stage matchup between the South Korea national baseball team and the Czech Republic national baseball team took place at Tokyo Dome. For the game, South Korea named So Hyeong Jun as the starting pitcher, while Czechia selected Daniel Padýšak to take the mound.
Prior to the start of the game, Wendy of Red Velvet appeared on the field to throw the ceremonial first pitch. Making her first pitching appearance at Tokyo Dome, Wendy expressed confidence in the Korean team, saying she believed they would secure a victory against Czechia.
South Korea has previously achieved notable results in the World Baseball Classic, reaching the semifinals in 2006 and finishing as runner-up in 2009. However, the team failed to advance to the quarterfinal stage in the next three tournaments in 2013, 2017, and 2023. In the 2026 competition, South Korea aims to return to the knockout stage for the first time in 17 years.
Wendy’s appearance added excitement to the opening games of the Tokyo Pool, drawing enthusiastic applause from fans as she delivered the ceremonial first pitch ahead of the matchup between South Korea and Czechia.
