Red Velvet’s Wendy, NCT’s Johnny, and ATEEZ’s Wooyoung are set to support the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) as ceremonial first pitch throwers.
On March 2, the WBC organizers announced that Wendy, Johnny, and Wooyoung will take the mound as first pitchers during the first-round games. Wendy will throw before Korea’s game against the Czech Republic on March 5, Johnny before the match against Taiwan on March 8, and Wooyoung before the Australia game on March 9. All games will be held at Tokyo Dome in Japan.
The first-pitch thrower for the March 7 game against Japan has not yet been announced. The Korean national baseball team must finish in the top two of Group C in the first round to advance to the quarterfinals in the U.S.
Wendy expressed, “It is truly an honor to throw the first pitch on a global stage. I hope my pitch can bring positive energy and luck to the players.”
Johnny, known as a passionate baseball fan, also hosts MLB Korea’s baseball talk show Major League Talk. He shared, “It is meaningful to be part of the Korean team’s games. I will cheer louder than anyone else.”
Wooyoung said, “It is a great honor to support the Korean national team on the world stage. I hope to send strong positive energy and help secure a win in the last preliminary match.”
