Casting news for a new project by director Mo Il Wan of 'The World of the Married' has stirred up buzz in the K-drama community.
According to media outlet reports earlier this week, actor Lee Dong Wook and actresses Jung Yoo Mi and Jeon So Ni have been offered lead roles in a drama titled 'Love Affair', set to begin filming in the first half of 2026.
The story follows a couple who enjoys an amicable marriage and a life of financial security. Then, one day, the husband meets a woman in Madrid, Spain, and love strikes like a bolt of lightning on a clear day.
Based on news reports, Lee Dong Wook has been offered the role of Kim Ji Hoon, a man with a stable job as a government worker. Jung Yoo Mi is in talks to star as Kim Ji Hoon's wife, a popular at-home YouTuber named Lee Sun Hee. Jeon So Ni has been tapped for the role of Gong Hoo Kyung, an architect who resents her native country and who meets Kim Ji Hoon in Madrid.
Set around the theme of a "forbidden but unstoppable love", the plot line to the upcoming series reminded many K-drama fans of 'The World of the Married', aired on JTBC in 2020. Based on the casting news, many expressed shock at the seemingly "villainous" roles that Lee Dong Wook and Jeon So Ni may take on if they accept the casting offers.
Meanwhile, some news reports have claimed that director Mo Il Wan's new project will introduce the genre of thriller to his psychological oeuvre, raising anticipation over how 'Love Affair' will differ from 'The World of the Married'.
Created by FNC Story, the drama is said to be coming to Netflix.
