The movie 'Bedford Park', starring Son Suk Ku and Choi Hee Seo, has delivered good news from the United States.
On February 1 (KST), the 42nd Sundance Film Festival announced that the film won the Special Jury Award for Debut Feature in the U.S. Dramatic Competition category. Sundance is the largest independent film festival in North America.
Directed by Korean-American director Stephanie Ahn, the film is based on her autobiographical story. It depicts the journey of Audrey (Choi Hee Seo), who feels isolated within her immigrant family, and Eli (Son Suk Ku), a former wrestler who was adopted as a child. The two characters form a deep bond and heal each other's emotional wounds.
The festival's jury praised the film, stating,"It boldly unfolded a strictly personal story," and "Overturned the audience's stereotypes through depth and craft".
Actor Son Suk Ku is credited as a producer, and Hyundai Motor Company participated as an investor. This marks their second collaboration following the short film 'Night Fishing' (2024), which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
Hyundai's participation as an investor, rather than a simple sponsor, is being praised for contributing to a high-quality film with humanistic values. This success at Sundance, following their Cannes win, is seen as a significant step in elevating Hyundai's brand status in the global content market.
