Mina Sue Choi, who was labeled a "legendary villain" for her blunt, unfiltered attitude on Netflix’s dating reality show, 'Single's Inferno 5,' has shared a sincere apology and reflection following the show’s conclusion.
On February 13, Mina Sue Choi took to social media, writing, “Watching my immature sides on screen, I reflected a lot, learned, realized, and grew.” She added, “It was a time for me to deeply understand that my actions and words could make others uncomfortable, and to look back on myself,” in apology.
From the early episodes, Mina Sue Choi became one of the most talked-about contestants. While her complicated love square with multiple male cast members heightened the show’s tension and immersion, she also faced criticism for being rude in certain scenes. In particular, a moment when she unexpectedly asked whether she could leave “Inferno Island” with two men drew backlash. During that scene, MC Hong Jin Kyung sharply responded, “That’s enough,” a clip that quickly went viral online and placed Choi at the center of controversy.

Seemingly aware of the public criticism, Mina Sue Choi candidly shared the inner turmoil she experienced before appearing on the show. “I worried a lot about whether I could be loved just as I am, and whether showing my true self would lead to hate,” she admitted. Nevertheless, she expressed firm resolve, saying, “Even so, choosing to be brave was the right decision,” signaling her determination to use even criticism as a stepping stone for growth.
Although she drew both scrutiny and attention during the broadcast, Mina Sue Choi ultimately ranked No. 1 in the non-drama TV buzz category, proving herself to be one of the season’s biggest breakout stars. She also achieved a happy ending on the show, leaving Inferno Island as a final couple with Lee Sung Hoon, who had remained steadfast in his feelings for her.
Concluding her message, she wrote, “I hope to continue showing you my diverse sides and for you to look forward to the growth I will demonstrate along the way. Let’s spend days challenging ourselves and being courageous together.”
Meanwhile, Mina Sue Choi first gained recognition as runner-up for Miss Korea in 2021. In 2022, she made headlines by becoming the first Korean winner of the Miss Earth pageant, one of the world’s four major beauty competitions. Expanding her career into entertainment, she has appeared in programs such as 'The Penthouse' and the drama 'Law and the City.' Attention is now focused on what steps she will take next as she moves forward from the controversy.
