SBS's upcoming bold fantasy legal drama 'Phantom Lawyer' is preparing bring viewers an adventure through a world where the spirits of the afterlife collide with the living.
SBS’ upcoming drama 'Phantom Lawyer' has recently revealed character posters highlighting the dual nature of its two protagonists, offering a clear glimpse into the show’s direction ahead of its premiere. The story follows two lawyers who pursue justice in different ways along the blurred boundary between law and reality, drawing growing anticipation over how their journeys will unfold.
SBS unveiled character posters for Yoo Yeon Seok and Esom ahead of the premiere of its new Friday–Saturday drama. The legal adventure centers on Shin Yi Rang, a lawyer who resolves the grudges of the dead, and Han Na Hyun, an elite attorney who prioritizes winning above all else. The posters use imagery of cracks dividing each character’s exterior and hidden inner self, symbolizing their layered identities.

Yoo Yeon Seok’s poster features the line, “Do you still see me as a lawyer?” His composed appearance in a formal suit is overlaid with fractured imagery, revealing another side beneath the surface. Contrasting elements, including a bandage on his cheek, a gown, an idol badge, and objects reminiscent of shamanistic rituals, coexist within a single frame. Shin Yi Rang is portrayed as someone who hears the grudges of the dead and is sometimes possessed by them. After his family fell into ruin following the dishonorable death of his prosecutor father, he resolved to become a successful lawyer to support his mother, Park Kyung Hwa (played by Kim Mi Kyung).
Esom’s poster, meanwhile, carries the phrase, “Being a lawyer was originally my sister’s dream.” Han Na Hyun, an ace attorney at the major law firm Taebaek, appears calm and polished, but the crack across her face hints at deeper emotional wounds. She survived an accident while on her way to see a performance with her sister during her school years. Afterward, she discovered her sister’s diary entry vowing to become “the best lawyer,” which became her own guiding goal.

Fantasy Legal Drama Starring Yoo Yeon Seok and Esom Confirms Premiere Date
'Phantom Lawyer' is scheduled to premiere on March 13 at 9:50 p.m. The drama follows two lawyers who approach cases in fundamentally different ways.
Yoo Yeon Seok stars as Shin Yi Rang, a lawyer with the supernatural ability to resolve the grudges of the deceased. While he appears ordinary on the surface, he demonstrates extraordinary intuition and unpredictable behavior when solving cases. The official poster visually emphasizes the complexity of his identity.
Esom plays Han Na Hyun, a sharp and highly skilled attorney at the prestigious Taebaek law firm. Her personal history, shaped by a family tragedy during her school years, plays a key role in her decision to pursue law. As the two characters confront cases together, their conflicting beliefs and backgrounds lead to both tension and collaboration.
The drama combines traditional courtroom storytelling with deep character-driven narratives. The script is written by Kim Ga Young and Kang Chul Kyu, with direction by Shin Joong Hoon. Production is handled by Studio S and Mongjakso.
“I Have to Watch This” — Anticipation Builds Ahead of Premiere

Online reactions have been spreading rapidly following the reveal of the drama’s unconventional premise and lead casting. The unique concept of a lawyer who resolves the grudges of the dead working alongside an elite attorney focused solely on winning has captured attention, further amplified by the strong pairing of Yoo Yeon Seok and Esom.
Viewers have shared enthusiastic responses, including comments such as, “I have to watch this no matter what,” “Yoo Yeon Seok should do everything he wants. I’m ready for this,” “If that’s acting, it’s Academy Award–worthy,” “I’m really looking forward to this drama,” “The acting is insane. I’ll watch it in real-time when it broadcasts,” “Cheering for Lawyer Shin Irang,” “One is possessed and the other stops at nothing. There’s no way this won’t be entertaining,” and “I’m excited for Yoo Yeon Seok and Esom’s chemistry.”
With two lawyers driven by opposing beliefs and methods set to confront justice together, anticipation is mounting over the choices they will make when faced with the same cases. SBS’s new Friday–Saturday drama 'Phantom Lawyer' premieres March 13 at 9:50 PM.
