Trot singer Jang Yoon Jung candidly spoke about the struggles of being a public figure, revealing that she feels fear over inappropriate touching and shouting that continue even after she steps off stage.
On the 25th, a new episode titled “Let Me Introduce My Friend Bori” was uploaded to Jang Yoon Jung’s YouTube channel.
During the episode, drag artist Bori shared that he feels happiest when he is alone at home or enjoying delivery food outside of performances. Jang Yoon Jung then asked, “What’s the most uncomfortable part of living as a drag queen?”
When Bori appeared flustered and struggled to answer, Jang Yoon Jung laughed and said, “Was that too direct?” She then opened up about her own experience, saying, “I always tell my staff that I’m not really suited to being a celebrity. I’m grateful when people love me as a singer because that’s my job. But when people touch me, hit me, or shout loudly even after I’ve come off stage, it’s scary.”
She also shared a related experience. “When I go out, I either wear a hat or put on full stage makeup. Once, I was standing at a crosswalk trying to act like I wasn’t myself, and people around me started arguing, saying, ‘That’s Jang Yoon Jung’ and ‘No, it’s not.’ Then someone said, ‘That’s not Jang Yoon Jung. She’s not pretty.’ That hurt me deeply, and after that, I started wearing makeup.”
Jang Yoon Jung continued, “I always say, ‘Please look with your eyes only. Don’t touch. I’m for viewing only.’ People touch me so much that I can’t even go to public bathhouses. There are bad hands everywhere. When I try to shampoo my hair, people gather around like doctor fish and start touching me. That’s why I stopped going.”
Meanwhile, Jang Yoon Jung married former announcer and broadcaster Do Kyung Wan in 2013, and the couple has one son and one daughter.
