Singer and actor Park Yoochun will no longer be required to pay 500 million KRW (approximately 340,000 USD), in damages to his former agency, as their long-running legal dispute has officially come to an end.
According to legal sources on January 17, management company Loud Fun Together withdrew its damages lawsuit on January 8 against Park Yoochun and Re Cielo Co Ltd. Park Yoochun’s side also withdrew its appeal, which resulted in the nullification of the second trial ruling that had ordered him to jointly pay 500 million KRW (approximately 340,000 USD), along with accrued interest. As a result, all compensation obligations stemming from the appellate court’s decision were eliminated, bringing an end to a legal conflict that lasted for roughly four years between Park Yoochun and Loud Fun Together.
Previously, Loud Fun Together, formerly known as HaveFunTogether, signed a contract with Re Cielo Co Ltd in January 2020. Under the agreement, the agency was granted exclusive management rights over Park Yoochun for four years, through 2024. However, tensions arose in May 2021 when Park Yoochun requested the termination of the exclusive contract.
After negotiations failed, Park Yoochun and Re Cielo Co Ltd sent a formal notice stating that the exclusive contract could be terminated if settlement payments were not made. When the agency did not respond, Park Yoochun notified it of the contract termination and began independent entertainment activities through a management company operated by an acquaintance.
In August 2021, HaveFunTogether filed an injunction seeking to prohibit Park Yoochun from appearing on broadcasts and engaging in entertainment activities. The court approved the injunction. Despite this, Park Yoochun continued overseas promotions and advertising work through the new agency, which led HaveFunTogether to file a damages lawsuit seeking approximately 500 million KRW (about 340,000 USD).
On September 27 last year, the Seoul High Court Civil Division 8-1 ruled that Park Yoochun and Re Cielo Co Ltd were required to jointly pay 500 million KRW (approximately 340,000 USD), along with delayed interest. Park Yoochun subsequently filed an appeal against the ruling. However, after HaveFunTogether withdrew the lawsuit, the legal dispute that had continued for more than four years was officially concluded.
Meanwhile, Park Yoochun recently drew attention after unexpectedly returning to South Korea for the first time in five years.
