Singer and actor Park Yoochun (39) has been ordered to pay damages after continuing independent entertainment activities in violation of a court injunction and his exclusive contract.
On September 27, the Seoul High Court’s Civil Division 8-1 (Presiding Judges Kim Tae Ho, Won Ik Seon, and Choi Seung Won) ruled in favor of Loud Fun Together in its damages lawsuit against Park Yoochun and his former management company, Re Cielo Co.
The court ordered Park and Re Cielo Co. to jointly pay 500 million KRW (about 360,000 USD) plus accrued interest. Park’s legal team argued that his exclusive contract with the agency had already been terminated, but the court dismissed the claim.
The ruling found that Park engaged in entertainment activities without Loud Fun Together’s consent, thereby violating both the exclusive contract and the injunction previously granted. The decision upholds the lower court’s December 2023 ruling requiring the same compensation.
Loud Fun Together had obtained exclusive management rights over Park from his former agency Re Cielo Co. until 2024. However, in May 2021, Park demanded termination of the contract. After the agency did not accept his request, Park unilaterally declared the contract void and resumed activities through another management company, reportedly operated by an acquaintance.
In August 2021, Loud Fun Together filed for an injunction to ban Park from performing or appearing in entertainment activities, which the court granted. Despite this, Park continued performances and advertising engagements, leading the agency to file the damages lawsuit.
This is not Park’s first legal controversy. In 2019, he was indicted on charges of methamphetamine use and received a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. Although he initially announced his retirement from the entertainment industry, he later resumed activities, particularly in Japan and other overseas markets.
