Hyoyeon has candidly shared stories about past conflicts with her fellow members.
On January 19 KST, Hyoyeon appeared as a guest on the YouTube channel “@iamdongbaek”. During the episode, Donghae asked her, “Do you guys fight too?” Hyoyeon replied honestly, “We actually don’t fight much. I think it’s natural that other girl groups fight, but we tend to take a step back and look at things objectively. If you had to pick a ‘fighter’ among us, it would probably be me.”
Hyoyeon then recalled the biggest conflict she had with the members. “There was a time when we couldn’t go into rehearsal because of me,” she said. “That kind of situation can even strain the relationship with the broadcasting station. It all happened because of me.”
She explained that she was late due to an accident while traveling back from Yongpyong Ski Resort. “The car had to turn back, and I had to call another one, so I arrived late. I apologized to the broadcast station, but not to the members,” she said. “I thought if I explained it, they would worry about me, because I really wanted to be there but there was an accident. So I didn’t apologize. But at the end of the day, this was work, right? That’s why the members got upset.”
Hyoyeon added, “On top of that, I cluelessly said, ‘Let’s go up. Fighting!’ Two members came to me and said it didn’t feel like the right atmosphere and that I should apologize first. So I did, and we worked it out.”
In response, Donghae joked, “Isn’t it normal to say sorry as soon as you arrive?” Hyoyeon laughed and replied, “I guess I wasn’t taught properly. It was my fault.”
Hyoyeon also revealed that she once wanted to form a unit with Yuri. “The kind of concept I had in mind was very similar to Super Junior-D&E, so I even went for advice. Whenever I met them at the airport, I’d bring it up,” she said.
Eunhyuk asked, “Didn’t you and Yuri ask, ‘We want to do this too—how can we make it happen?’ Why didn’t it work out?” Hyoyeon explained, “When I first suggested it, Yuri was busy with a drama or something and turned it down. I was honestly disappointed. She said, ‘I don’t think I can right now.’ I asked when we could do it together, but the timing never matched—when I was working, she was resting, and vice versa.”
