Pro gamer Faker (Lee Sang Hyeok) has been awarded the Blue Dragon Order, the highest class of South Korea’s Order of Sports Merit.
On January 2, Faker received the Blue Dragon Order—the top rank among sports medals—from President Lee Jae Myung during the New Year’s reception held at the Blue House State Guesthouse.
The Order of Sports Merit is bestowed upon athletes, coaches, and sports-related figures who have made significant contributions to the development of sports, elevated the nation’s international standing, or promoted public participation in athletics.
The honor is divided into five classes: Blue Dragon, Fierce Tiger, Giant Elephant, White Horse, and Unicorn. Faker is the first esports athlete to receive the first-class Blue Dragon Order.
Notable recipients of the Blue Dragon Order include footballer Son Heung Min, figure skater Kim Yuna, baseball legend Park Chan Ho, and golfer Pak Se Ri.
In his acceptance remarks, Faker said, “I was able to stand here thanks to the teammates and colleagues who have run this journey with me,” adding, “I hope this can be a small source of joy and pride for everyone who supports esports.”
Faker debuted in 2013 with SK Telecom T1. His achievements include five League of Legends World Championship titles, two Mid-Season Invitational victories, and a gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Last year, he lifted the League of Legends World Championship trophy once again, completing an unprecedented three consecutive titles. On December 14, he also claimed his first-ever KeSPA Cup championship.
