Actress Choi Ji Woo has shared stories about her enduring popularity in Japan and her return to the big screen as a mother.
On the January 25 broadcast of SBS's 'My Little Old Boy', it was revealed that Choi Ji Woo's dramas are still legendary in Japan. In a recent survey, 'Winter Sonata' ranked #1 and 'Stairway to Heaven' ranked #5 on the list of "Best Life Dramas Chosen by Japanese Women".
When asked if she is still recognized there, she joked, "Since they re-air the dramas every winter, older people recognize me. But the younger generation doesn't." She wittily added, "I was prettier back then," making everyone laugh.
Choi Ji Woo is returning to movies after three years with 'Sugar'. She plays 'Mira', a mother fighting for her child who suffers from Type 1 diabetes.
In a recent interview, she explained how being a mother in real life influenced her acting. "Receiving this script after giving birth, the story felt very heavy to me," she said.
She also revealed the difficulty of playing a character based on a real person. "I was very cautious. During filming, I often became too emotionally immersed. I actually tried to hold back my tears and act more calmly to honor the real story."
