As singer and actor Cha Eun Woo becomes embroiled in allegations of tax evasion involving 20 billion KRW (approximately 13.8 million USD), education brand Daesung MIMAC now removed his advertisement.
As of January 27, the promotional video featuring Cha Eun Woo that had previously been pinned to the top of Daesung MIMAC’s official Instagram account is no longer visible. The move aligns the education brand with several other companies that have reportedly set his advertisements to private or deleted them following the emergence of the tax-related controversy.
As the allegations surrounding Cha Eun Woo spread, some beauty and financial brands for which he served as a model took immediate action by suspending advertisement exposure. Daesung MIMAC, which had continued advertising earlier, has now followed suit by removing the content. The company has not released a separate official statement regarding the decision.
Cha Eun Woo is currently under suspicion of attempting to reduce his tax burden by establishing a separate corporation under a family member’s name and distributing his income structure, despite being signed under his current agency, Fantagio. In relation to this, the National Tax Service reportedly notified him to pay additional taxes exceeding 20 billion KRW (approximately 13.8 million USD), including income tax.
Regarding the matter, Fantagio stated, “The key issue is whether the corporation established by Cha Eun Woo’s mother qualifies as a subject of substantive taxation,” adding, “This is not a matter that has been finally confirmed or officially assessed. We plan to actively provide clarification through lawful procedures regarding issues related to legal interpretation and application.”
Cha Eun Woo also addressed the issue personally on January 26 through his social media, saying, “I will faithfully comply with the tax-related procedures that follow. I will humbly accept the final decision made by the relevant authorities and fulfill my responsibilities accordingly.”
