Actor Chae Jong Hyeop has stepped forward to support people living with epilepsy, donating funds to help cover treatment costs for patients in need.
On January 7, the Korea Epilepsy Association announced that Chae Jong Hyeop donated 50 million KRW (approx. 34,554 USD), requesting that the contribution be used for medical expenses for financially struggling epilepsy patients as well as for public awareness initiatives.
Chae Jong Hyeop himself has previously been diagnosed with epilepsy. In 2023, he openly revealed the reason for his military exemption, explaining that he was classified as Grade 5, wartime service personnel, due to his condition.
“I understand the pain of people living with epilepsy all too well,” Chae said. “I hope my small contribution can offer even a little strength and comfort to patients.”
The association expressed its gratitude for his support, saying, “His understanding of the hardships faced by epilepsy patients and their families, and his willingness to help, have been a great source of encouragement and strength.”
Chae Jong Hyeop made his debut in 2016 through a web drama and has since risen as a breakout star with roles in 'Hot Stove League,' 'Nevertheless,' 'Shooting Stars,' and 'Castaway Diva.' He solidified his global fanbase with the lead male role in the Korean-Japanese drama 'Eye Love You,' acting alongside Fumi Nikaido.
Meanwhile, Chae Jong Hyeop is set to return to the small screen with MBC’s upcoming Friday–Saturday drama 'In Your Radiant Season,' scheduled to premiere in the first half of this year.
