Former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin has spoken publicly about NewJeans’ emergency live broadcast from last year.
On the afternoon of December 18 KST, Min Hee Jin attended a court hearing at the Seoul Central District Court (Civil Division 31, presiding Judge Nam In Soo) for a lawsuit seeking payment for a stock sale tied to the exercise of a put option filed against HYBE, as well as a separate lawsuit filed by HYBE seeking confirmation of the termination of a shareholder agreement. During the hearing, Min stated, “I was aware of the live broadcast, but it was not for me—it was for themselves.”
Min Hee Jin acknowledged that she knew in advance what the NewJeans members planned to say during the emergency live broadcast, titled "What NewJeans Wants to Say," which took place in September last year after the group launched a new YouTube account. She also admitted to sharing contact information for staff needed to set up the broadcast.
However, Min Hee Jin said she did not meet with the members on the day of the broadcast. When asked whether she had tried to dissuade them, considering the potential impact on the members, she responded, “They did not do the YouTube broadcast for me. They did it for themselves. The purpose was not to save me, but to say that NewJeans had suffered harm from HYBE, that the CEO suddenly disappeared, leaving a leadership vacuum, and that NewJeans had been subjected to a public opinion battle.”
She continued, saying, “The point was, ‘Why did you remove our CEO and cause harm to us?’ It was not done to defend me,” adding, “It was an action taken in opposition because HYBE engaged in unreasonable conduct.”
Previously, on September 11 last year, the NewJeans members held a live broadcast in which they protested Min’s dismissal and demanded her reinstatement. During the broadcast, they said, “We hope HYBE will stop interfering with us,” and added, “Please reinstate CEO Min Hee Jin and return us to our original environment, not an unfamiliar one with unfamiliar people. We just want to do our jobs well in our respective positions. We’re not asking for anything more than that. If everyone does their job where they belong, that will be enough. We will also do our best in our place.”
