TV personality Jo Se Ho, who recently became embroiled in allegations of ties to organized crime, will be stepping down from all of his variety programs.
On December 9th KST, his agency A2Z Entertainment issued an official statement announcing, “Jo Se Ho will be leaving tvN’s 'You Quiz on the Block' and KBS 2TV’s '2 Days & 1 Night.'”
Jo Se Ho was previously swept up in allegations that he maintained a long-standing relationship with a powerful figure in an organized crime syndicate surnamed Choi, who is accused of running an illegal gambling site and laundering money. According to the whistleblower, Jo Se Ho allegedly received expensive gifts from Choi and even helped promote his franchise business, suggesting a deeper connection.
In response, A2Z Entertainment initially stated that Choi was merely an acquaintance Jo had met at an event, denying any quid pro quo gifts or inappropriate ties. Despite the clarification, viewers of You Quiz on the Block and 2 Days & 1 Night demanded his removal. The production team of 2 Days & 1 Night told on December 5th and 6th that filming had proceeded normally but that they were “closely monitoring the situation.”
Amid continuing scrutiny, A2Z Entertainment released a second official statement on the 9th, confirming Jo Se Ho’s departure from both shows. The agency explained, “Jo Se Ho feels a deep sense of responsibility regarding the misunderstandings and controversy surrounding him. He fully understands the discomfort felt by viewers who love these programs. He also does not want the production teams—who pour their sweat and effort into creating these shows—to carry unnecessary burden due to the public’s perception of him. After discussions with the producers, he has decided to step down voluntarily.”
They continued, “Jo Se Ho and our agency plan to respond to this matter with greater seriousness. We intend to proceed swiftly and firmly with legal action to resolve the misunderstandings surrounding him and restore his damaged reputation. We promise to dispel all suspicions entirely and return with a healthier image.”
The agency further reiterated, “As we stated earlier, Jo Se Ho has no involvement whatsoever in Choi’s business. Claims that he accepted money or valuables from Choi for promotional purposes are clearly untrue.” They added, “Jo Seho is deeply grateful for the sincere concern and words of comfort he has received. He also views the stern criticism as an opportunity for reflection. He will work hard to deliver healthier, more genuine laughter. We ask for your continued support for his future.”
