Choi Sooyoung has shared candid behind-the-scenes stories from her Hollywood debut, revealing moments of loneliness, self-doubt, and personal growth.
On the 16th, a video titled “The difference between when men say ‘cute’ and when women say ‘cute’ EP.119 | Choi Sooyoung, Kim Jae Young” was released on the TEO YouTube channel. In the video, Sooyoung reflected on her experience filming the Hollywood movie 'Ballerina'.
Recalling the shoot, she said it was a moment that made her rethink her life, explaining that she traveled abroad alone for about three weeks. While she was well taken care of on set, she admitted there were lonely moments, saying that even though no one treated her poorly, she felt emotionally vulnerable. She shared that despite speaking English, she sometimes overanalyzed people’s facial expressions and worried whether something she said might have come across negatively, leading her to withdraw and stay quiet for a while.
Sooyoung added that she spent about a week feeling homesick and wanting to return home, but eventually adapted and grew stronger, describing the experience as a necessary phase one must go through.
She also revealed that she cried once during training. Although some action scenes did not make it into the final cut, she underwent intense training with the movie 'John Wick' stunt team.

She recalled being surprised when told that her movements resembled those of a typical K-drama female lead, as she was accustomed to slower, more dramatic reactions. When asked to perform action sequences in the faster-paced 'John Wick' style, she tried it once and was told she nailed the timing. Curious, she later rewatched 'John Wick' at her hotel and laughed upon realizing that characters really did fall instantly just as she had practiced.
Through her honest storytelling, Sooyoung offered a glimpse into the emotional and professional challenges she faced while stepping onto the global stage.
