Korean drama 'The Dream Life of Mr. Kim' has captured viewers’ hearts, topping Netflix Korea’s TV show rankings.

JTBC’s weekend drama 'The Dream Life of Mr. Kim' continues its upward momentum thanks to strong word-of-mouth, led by Ryu Seung Ryong’s compelling, realistic performance and a storyline that balances humor and emotion.

The series follows middle-aged man Kim Nak Soo, who loses everything he once believed valuable and embarks on a journey to rediscover his true self beyond his corporate title. Having aired up to episode 4, the show portrays the rollercoaster of the Kim family’s daily life, resonating deeply with viewers.

Tops Netflix Korea Chart

According to Netflix’s official site, from October 27 to November 2, 'The Dream Life of Mr. Kim' ranked No. 1 on Korea’s Top TV Show chart, proving its strong popularity.

Additionally, Good Data Corporation’s FUNdex ranked the show second in overall drama buzz for the fourth week of October, climbing two spots from the previous week. Lead actor Ryu Seung Ryong also entered the top ranks of most talked-about drama actors.

Rising Ratings and National Relatability

Starting with a 2.9% viewership rating (Nielsen Korea), the drama’s fourth episode achieved a personal best of 3.5%, signaling steady growth.

At the heart of the show’s success lies its deeply relatable narrative, reflecting the struggles of modern Koreans across generations — from workplace pressure and performance-based stress to the anxiety of balancing work and family. Kim Nak Soo’s perseverance despite unrelenting instability mirrors the nation’s collective reality.

Complemented by a cast of well-developed, familiar characters, sleek cinematography, delicate direction, and an evocative soundtrack, the drama delivers both visual and emotional depth.
