Public outrage continues to grow after the man who broke into actress Nana’s home with a weapon claimed during police questioning that he “didn’t know it was a celebrity’s house.” The anger intensified further when it was revealed that Nana’s mother lost consciousness from severe injuries sustained during the struggle.
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on November 15th KST. A man in his 30s, identified as A, climbed a ladder onto the veranda of Nana’s luxury villa in Acheon-dong, Guri City—valued at approximately 4.2 billion KRW(~2.9 million)—and entered through an unlocked door.
Armed with a weapon, A threatened the residents and demanded money. A physical struggle broke out, during which Nana’s mother suffered serious injuries and lost consciousness. Nana was also injured while subduing the intruder. Both are currently receiving treatment and are in need of complete rest. Despite the life-threatening situation, Nana and her mother managed to overpower A and hand him over to the police.
However, public anger erupted further when it was reported that during questioning, A stated, “I didn’t know a celebrity lived there. I broke in because I was short on living expenses.”
Netizens responded with fury, commenting:
- “Whether it’s a celebrity’s house or not isn’t the point.”
- “He broke in with a weapon and knocked someone unconscious—what kind of excuse is that?”
- “Blaming it on living expenses? That’s not an excuse for attempted robbery.”
Citing a clear risk of escape, the court issued an arrest warrant for A on the 17th. The case will soon be handed over to the prosecution.
Nana’s agency, Sublime, stated, “An extremely dangerous situation occurred when an armed robber broke in. Both Nana and her mother could have suffered life-threatening harm.” They added, “Her mother was injured to the point of losing consciousness, and Nana was also hurt. Please refrain from speculation or spreading false information, as it can cause secondary harm.”
The villa, which Nana recently purchased for 4.2 billion KRW, is known as an emerging luxury residential area. Reports that other celebrities—such as actress Han So Hee and TWICE’s Nayeon—also live in the complex sparked additional concerns:
- “Isn’t the security system too weak for a high-end villa?”
- “Is it really a structure someone can enter just by using a ladder?”
The shock is even greater as Nana was preparing for multiple major projects, including the film 'Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint', the drama 'Climax', and Netflix’s upcoming series 'Scandal' (working title). Fans are expressing worry and support, saying, “Wishing her a quick recovery,” “It’s heartbreaking that something like this happened to her family,” and “The assailant must face severe punishment.”
