Former After School member and actress Nana recently made headlines after she and her mother subdued an armed intruder who broke into their home. Legal experts, however, caution that such situations are rare and advise prioritizing compliance and immediate police notification rather than confronting the perpetrator.

On November 17, lawyer Park Seong Bae spoke to YTN News regarding the incident at Nana’s residence.

The incident occurred on the morning of November 15 at around 6 a.m. in Acheon-dong, Guri City. A man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, broke into Nana’s home armed with a knife, demanding money and threatening both Nana and her mother. Reports indicate that he even grabbed Nana’s mother by the neck, causing injuries.

During the struggle, Nana and her mother managed to restrain Mr. A by holding his arm and immediately contacted the police. Mr. A sustained a laceration to his jaw and was transported to a hospital for treatment upon the arrival of authorities. Nana’s mother was also injured in the confrontation but regained consciousness after treatment, and Nana reportedly received medical attention for minor injuries.

Park noted, “It is extremely rare for a female victim to subdue a robber during a physical altercation. Nana holds a fourth-degree black belt in special martial arts, which has been widely reported in the media.”

He added, “We do not know the extent of her equipment or whether her confidence as a martial arts practitioner influenced her actions. Having her mother present may have also prompted a more proactive response. However, I would not generally recommend that victims take such risks.”

From a professional standpoint, Park emphasized, “In this case, the robber was injured, but typically the safest course is to comply with the demands to some extent and promptly contact the police, which helps ensure a swift resolution and apprehension.”

Meanwhile, the Uijeongbu District Court, Namyangju Branch, issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A on charges of aggravated robbery and assault, citing concerns he might flee. According to reports, Mr. A claimed he was unaware that a celebrity lived in the home and committed the crime due to financial difficulties.
