Singer and actor Lee Seung Gi candidly shared that he does not wish for his daughter to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
On the November 26 broadcast of MBC FM4U’s 'Noon’s Hope Song with Kim Shin Young,' Lee Seung Gi was asked about his daughter’s future career plans.
When DJ Kim Shin Young asked, “If your daughter shows musical talent, would you let her become a singer?” Lee Seung Gi replied without hesitation, “Personally, I strongly hope she doesn’t.”
Lee Seung Gi, who married actress Lee Da In in April 2023, welcomed their daughter in February of the following year. He revealed that his concerns about the entertainment industry had been on his mind even before his daughter was born.
Having worked in the industry for nearly 20 years, Lee Seung Gi explained, based on his own experience, and said, “I’ve gone through the industry with my whole body, from the transitional period of variety shows onward. While it’s undoubtedly a fulfilling and happy career if it succeeds, there’s an immense amount of sacrifice and suffering before that success.”
He reflected on the difficulties he’s faced, saying, “People often say studying is the easiest thing. I didn’t understand that before, but now I do.”
Lee Seung Gi also highlighted the difference between the entertainment industry and traditional schooling. He shared, “Studying has the safety net of school, but the entertainment world has no protective barriers. You have to manage it yourself.” He emphasized the profession’s instability, adding, “This job is almost like entering the wild… I wonder if I could bear watching my own child go through that.”
Since his debut in 2004 with "Because You’re My Woman," Lee Seung Gi has achieved major success as a singer, actor, and variety show personality.
