Lee Jun Ho delivered a thrilling victory in a fierce bidding war against Pyo Sang Sun in tvN’s weekend drama 'Typhoon Family,' giving viewers a jolt of catharsis with an edge-of-the-seat plot twist.
Yet the triumph was short-lived. An unexpected crisis struck almost immediately, laying bare what the protagonist truly holds dear.
The latest episode that aired on November 16 recorded a 9.9% viewership rating, marking a new series high and topping all channels—including terrestrial networks—in its time slot.
This week’s central conflict revolved around the bidding for surgical gloves, a battle that seemed disadvantageous from the start.
The U.S. supplier insisted on full-price purchases regardless of volume or conditions, and Pyo Sang Sun held a clear advantage with his fully developed logistics network.
Lowering the bid price further would have pushed profitability to the brink. The turning point came when Wang Nam Mo (played by Kim Min Seok), a friend experienced in trade, offered a crucial hint about wholesale pricing. Tae Poong then devised a bold workaround: bypassing the U.S. headquarters to negotiate directly with a Malaysian factory.

Two days before the bid, Tae Poong urgently dispatched Song Jung (portrayed by Lee Sang Jin) to Malaysia. But the situation on the ground proved far more complicated than expected.
The factory Song Jung visited had already terminated its contract with the U.S. headquarters and shifted its business to pillow manufacturing. The surgical glove production site had been relocated somewhere among Malaysia’s 800-plus islands.
With unstable overseas communication making real-time updates nearly impossible, Typhoon Company entered the bidding day for “Prairie of Hope” filled with anxiety. Then, three minutes before the deadline, Song Jung’s urgent telegram arrived.

“5111, 40, ok.” Tae Poong deciphered the message instantly. He calculated the bid on the spot and submitted it with only seconds to spare, resulting in a dramatic come-from-behind win.
The key to securing the 3 million–unit glove contract was that Song Jung had acquired the factory’s entire inventory at a 40% discount.
Reeling from defeat, Pyo Sang Sun was consumed by rage. CEO Pyo Park Ho (played by Kim Sang Ho) was devastated by more than 200 million KRW (~136,722 USD) in losses from unsold U.S.-made orange juice and the failure of a national project.
He fiercely confronted his son Pyo Hyun Joon (played by Moo Jin Sung) over the misjudgment, but Hyun Joon pushed back with his own obsessive competitiveness, leading to a direct clash.
Hyun Joon then began probing Cha Sun Taek (Kim Jae Hwa), uncovering even the existence of a loan document dated 1989.
As tension between the two companies escalated, the glove shipment finally arrived—but a new ordeal awaited Tae Poong and Mi Sun.
While checking inventory alone in the warehouse, Mi Sun was caught in a sudden fire. Attempting to protect the goods, she collapsed. Spotting her through the flames, Tae Poong didn’t hesitate. He pushed aside scorching metal debris and plunged into the inferno to rescue her.
The question posed at the start of the episode found its answer in Tae Poong’s unwavering charge toward Mi Sun.
'Typhoon Family' airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 PM.
