A former police officer who leaked investigation information on the late Lee Sun Gyun has been sentenced to prison.
According to the legal community, on November 3, the prosecution requested a three-year prison term for former police inspector 'A,' in his 30s, during the sentencing hearing held that day at Incheon District Court, presided over by Judge Kim Saet Byeol of Criminal Division 11. 'A' was charged with leaking official secrets and other related offenses.
Earlier, in October 2023, 'A' allegedly leaked investigation materials regarding actor Lee Sun Gyun’s drug-related case to two journalists, including 'B,' by photographing and sending reports on the progress of the investigation.
The leaked report contained personal information of individuals involved in Lee Sun Gyun’s drug case, including names, criminal records, identities, and occupations. The leak appeared publicly in December 2023, after Lee Sun Gyun's death.
Following his dismissal, former inspector 'A 'filed a lawsuit against the Incheon Police Chief to overturn the dismissal, but he lost in the first trial.
Meanwhile, A’s sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place on December 17 at Incheon District Court in the afternoon.
