The viewership decline of KBS 2TV’s weekend drama ‘Last Summer’ has hit a new low.
Premiering on November 1 KST, the drama began with a modest 2.7% for its first episode and has continued to struggle, remaining in the 2% range during its early weeks before dropping even further.
According to Nielsen Korea, episode 8 of 'Last Summer' recorded 1.6%, breaking its previous low and sinking firmly into the 1% range. With episode 9, it sunk even lower, recording 1.5%. At this pace, some are predicting that dipping into the 0% range may not be far off.
‘Last Summer’ initially generated buzz with the casting of actors Lee Jae Wook, Choi Sung Eun, and Kim Gun Woo. During the production presentation, Lee Jae Wook drew attention when he stated, "I hope for a 30% viewership rating." Instead, the drama opened with only 2%, far from the optimistic expectations.
He later additionally remarked, "These days, there are moments when it’s hard to know what viewers want. I’d be grateful even for 10%."
However, even reaching 10% now appears increasingly unlikely for this drama.
‘Last Summer’ tells the story of a man who appeared each year like a fleeting summer guest and the childhood friend who always waited for him—now adults confronting old emotions, past wounds, and long-held misunderstandings. Rather than focusing on lighthearted excitement, the drama takes a reflective look at memories, scars, and truths shaped over time.
