Soyou received an apology from Delta Airlines in the United States following a wave of false rumors suggesting she was intoxicated on a flight.
On October 31, Soyou addressed the situation on her personal social media account, stating, “False information and rumors are still being circulated recklessly, so I want to share the accurate facts.”
She explained, “During the flight, after considering a series of events, I submitted my concerns through the cabin crew before landing. This week, I received an apology via email from Delta Airlines.”
Expressing gratitude to her supporters, Soyou added, “I appreciate everyone who empathized with what I went through over the past week and shared their concern for how I must have felt. I apologize for causing worry due to a personal matter, and thanks to those who encouraged me after I bravely shared my story, I was able to return to my daily life.”
Despite this resolution, Soyou emphasized that she still feels compelled to clarify the facts. “False information and rumors continue to circulate recklessly. I have received a formal apology for the incidents in question, so I do not plan to address this further through public channels. However, I will respond firmly and take legal action against baseless speculation, unverified falsehoods, or defamatory statements that infringe on my personal rights,” she warned.
Concluding her statement, Soyou said, “I am sorry for having to share uncomfortable news consecutively, but I will continue to correct what needs to be corrected. I apologize again for causing concern over personal matters, and I hope to bring you happier news in the future.”
The controversy began on October 20, when Soyou shared on her personal account that after completing her schedule in New York, she boarded a flight from Atlanta to South Korea and requested a Korean crew member. She claimed that the chief flight attendant treated her like a problematic passenger and even called security, causing her distress. Amid the dispute, a passenger identified as A reportedly claimed Soyou was intoxicated, sparking public debate. Soyou refuted the claim in a follow-up statement, saying, “I only had a small amount of alcohol with my meal,” denying the allegations of being drunk.
Soyou debuted in 2010 as a member of the girl group SISTAR and has pursued a solo career since 2017.
