Soyou revealed that she experienced what she believes was racial discrimination while traveling on an airline, opening up about an upsetting incident.
On October 19, Soyou shared on her social media, "After finishing my schedule in New York, I boarded a flight from Atlanta to Korea with a layover," recounting the details of what happened during the flight.
According to her post, Soyou was exhausted and asked for a Korean flight attendant to check her meal schedule. However, during this process, the cabin manager allegedly treated her like a problematic passenger and even called in security personnel.
Soyou explained that she had to tell the cabin manager, "If I’m the problem, I’ll get off the plane."
From that moment on, she said she endured cold looks and attitudes from the flight attendants for the remainder of the journey. Reflecting on the incident, she wrote, "At that moment, I thought to myself, ‘Was this racism?’"
In the end, Soyou said she couldn’t eat anything during the 15-hour flight, emphasizing that the experience "left a deep wound rooted in racial prejudice." She concluded her post with a message of empathy, saying, "I hope no one ever has to be suspected or humiliated because of their race," calling for greater awareness against what she believed was racial discrimination.

Her full Instagram Story post reads:
"After finishing my schedule in New York, I boarded a connecting flight from Atlanta to Korea. I was extremely tired and only asked for a Korean flight attendant to check the meal schedule, but the cabin manager immediately assumed an attitude about me and treated me like a problematic passenger, even calling security. I even had to say, 'If I’m the problem, I’ll get off the plane,' and afterward, I had to endure cold looks and attitudes from the crew for the rest of the flight. At that moment, I thought, 'Is this racism?' I couldn’t eat anything during the more than 15-hour flight, and that experience has remained with me as a deep wound caused by racial prejudice. I hope no one ever has to be suspected or humiliated because of their race."
Netizens on community forums largely expressed support for Soyou but were divided in their opinions. Some questioned whether the airline had refused to serve her meals or if she had declined them herself. Others raised doubts about the situation, debating whether it was truly a case of racial discrimination or a misunderstanding caused by requests that went beyond standard protocol.
