Kim Yoo Jung spoke about her chemistry with co-star Kim Young Dae and raised anticipation for her dramatic transformation in the upcoming drama 'Dear X.'
On October 28, TVING original series 'Dear X' (directed by Lee Eung Bok and Park So Hyun, written by Choi Ja Won and Ban Ji Woon, produced by Monster Union and Siwoo Company, planned by Studio Dragon) unveiled new stills of Baek Ah Jin (played by Kim Yoo Jung) and Yoon Jun Seo (played by Kim Young Dae). The latest still shots reflected their entangled fate that becomes deeply and painfully intertwined.
'Dear X' tells the story of Baek Ah Jin, a woman who wears a mask to escape her personal hell and climb to the very top, and the "Xs" whose lives she mercilessly tramples along the way. The drama promises to deliver a darkly alluring "ruinous melodrama suspense," depicting the downfall of a woman who hides her cruel nature behind a beautiful face and the man who chooses to walk through hell for her.

Attention is also on director Lee Eung Bok, known as the "hitmaker" for massive successes including 'Sweet Home,' 'Mr. Sunshine,' 'Goblin,' and 'Descendants of the Sun.' He is joining forces with director Park So Hyun, celebrated for her refined and emotional storytelling. The screenplay is co-written by Choi Ja Won, winner of KBS’s 2018 Drama Script Contest, and the original webtoon creator Ban Ji Woon.
The newly released stills of Baek Ah Jin and Yoon Jun Seo evoke a bittersweet sense of longing. One photo captures their school days—Baek Ah Jin drenched from head to toe as Yoon Jun Seo wraps her in his arms and leads her out of the classroom. As Baek Ah Jin’s school life becomes chaotic with unexpected incidents and people, Yoon Jun Seo quietly watches over her, always one step behind instead of stepping forward. Another image shows the two standing close enough to almost touch; Yoon Jun Seo’s lingering gaze on Ah Jin’s face conveys a silent emotional connection between them.

But their deeply intertwined lives eventually take a turn. Having risen from the very bottom to the top of society as a "top star," Baek Ah Jin is seen leaning into Yoon Jun Seo’s arms. Her empty, unreadable expression and his conflicted, motionless gaze heighten anticipation for the dark and tragic melodrama to unfold between them.
Kim Yoo Jung plays Baek Ah Jin, a woman who wears a mask to survive, while Kim Young Dae portrays Yoon Jun Seo, a man who believes salvation lies in love. The two are expected to maximize the charm of their beloved webtoon characters through their visuals, acting, and undeniable chemistry, making them one of the most anticipated pairings of the year.

Speaking about her co-star, Kim Yoo Jung said, “I felt that Yoon Jun Seo had a childlike purity. Kim Young Dae’s clear and sincere energy, his gaze, and his expressions brought out the depth of the character even more. I couldn’t imagine anyone else as Yoon Jun Seo—he was the character himself.”
Kim Young Dae shared similar praise: “Kim Yoo Jung is Baek Ah Jin. While filming, she was so deeply immersed in the character that it truly felt like I was acting opposite Baek Ah Jin herself. Thanks to her, I could naturally focus and immerse myself in the emotions, too.”
Meanwhile, TVING’s original series 'Dear X' will premiere its first four episodes on Thursday, November 6, at 6 PM KST, exclusively on TVING.
