IVE’s Rei shares her thoughts after attending ‘W Korea Breast Cancer Awareness Event’: ''I studied about cancer before attending, and I hope awareness grows''
The star-studded event quickly went viral, with many criticizing the lack of focus on breast cancer awareness, the party-like atmosphere, and the low amount of money raised to benefit breast cancer research. Among those in attendance were aespa, i-dle, Byun Woo Seok, and members of BTS, ILLIT, IVE, and Stray Kids.
While some idols are currently under fire for not doing more to draw attention to the cause, others are receiving praise for their actions. IVE's Rei is now going viral for her live broadcast directly after the event.
Shortly after leaving, Rei posted on her Bubble: "I was at the party a while ago. I left quickly, haha," expressing that she had been tired. She then did a livestream in which, among other topics, she discussed the event itself.
Rei began by revealing that she had chosen to study about breast cancer ahead of the event, so she could be prepared. She then shared her hopes about raising awareness for this illness, and changing society's perceptions to be more kind to those suffering from cancer. Rei even opened up about her own struggles with illness, and how that influenced her passion for this cause.
Other celebrities receiving praise for their actions at the W Korea event include ILLIT's Wonhee, who took a moment during ILLIT's performance at the event to speak about the importance of monitoring for early signs of breast cancer: "Please don’t ignore even the smallest symptoms. Start with early checkups."
