IU once again proved her presence as an actress by winning the Outstanding Korean Drama Actress Award, or the Best Actress award at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2025.
The ceremony took place on the afternoon of October 2 at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, drawing the attention of numerous domestic and international drama industry figures and fans. The event was hosted by Jang Do Yeon, known for her witty and steady hosting, and actor Ok Taecyeon, who helped set a lively atmosphere.
This year’s Best Actress award presenter was Yeom Hye Ran, who won in the same category last year. She could not hide her smile as she announced IU’s name. Having previously worked together on the Netflix hit 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' the two shared a warm and heartfelt congratulatory moment.

Heartfelt Thanks and Emotional Moment on Stage
IU expressed her gratitude to the audience and judges with her characteristic calm and sincere voice. She began by saying, “Thank you to everyone who loved 'When Life Gives You Tangerines'.” She continued, “I dedicate this honor to writer Lim Sang Choon, director Kim Won Seok, and all the production staff who worked hard on set.”
At one point, IU became emotional, recalling the characters she portrayed. She said, “I love Ae Soon, Geum Myung, and the families in the drama,” her eyes welling up. Referring to the characters, she revealed how the time spent with them went beyond mere acting and left a deep mark on her life. She concluded, “'When Life Gives You Tangerines' will continue to be a source of pride and honor for me.”

Challenging Dual Roles Captivates Critics and Fans
'When Life Gives You Tangerines' is set in Jeju Island and tells a multi-generational story of family and youth. IU portrayed two characters, Ae Soon and Geum Myung, showcasing a wide acting range. She captured Ae Soon’s pure yet spirited nature and Geum Myung’s complex emotions and growth, bringing both characters vividly to life.
Critics praised her performance, saying it “clearly demonstrates IU’s growth as an actress.” Fans also expressed strong support, noting, “IU shows a depth and charm distinct from her stage persona as a singer.” Beyond being an idol-turned-actress challenge, IU is increasingly recognized as a genuine actress.
IU Shines on the International Stage
Celebrating its 20th year, the Seoul International Drama Awards is a globally recognized ceremony that honors dramas worldwide. Unlike events focusing solely on Korean dramas, it receives entries from Asia, Europe, and the Americas. This year, 276 works from 50 countries were submitted, and after rigorous judging among over 400 entrants, winners were determined.
IU’s win symbolizes not just personal achievement but also highlights the global standing of Korean dramas and actors. With her work reaching international audiences through platforms like Netflix, the award is seen as a natural outcome of her widespread impact.

Achievement Shared with Fans
The ceremony saw a large turnout of domestic and international fans, who cheered enthusiastically as IU’s name was called. Fans in the audience were moved to tears, while overseas fans watching the live stream filled social media with messages like “IU deserved it.” At the end of her acceptance speech, IU thanked her fans, saying, “Thank you for always believing in me and supporting me,” reaffirming her bond with them as an actress.
Anticipation for Future Projects
This award marks a significant milestone in IU’s acting career. Already a dominant figure in the music industry, she is now establishing a stable presence in acting and gaining attention as a next-generation face of Korean dramas. Industry insiders commented, “IU’s challenges broaden the possibilities for Korean dramas,” reflecting high expectations.
IU is reportedly carefully reviewing her next project. Audiences are eager to see what roles and works she will choose after 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' and how she will continue to express her unique colors as an actress.
