Former T-ara member Ahreum received a confirmed suspended prison sentence for child abuse and defamation charges.
According to Star News on October 9, the Suwon District Court Ansan Branch sentenced Ahreum to eight months in prison, suspended for two years, for child abuse and defamation. The court also ordered her to complete 40 hours of a child abuse prevention education program.
Ahreum appealed the initial ruling that was delivered in January, but the court dismissed her appeal, finalizing the sentence.
The case began in March last year when Ahreum publicly accused her ex-husband of child abuse and domestic violence on social media. Shortly afterward, she attempted suicide and was taken to a hospital. Following a police investigation, her ex-husband was found not guilty of the child abuse allegations.
Later, Ahreum’s ex-husband filed criminal complaints against Ahreum and her mother for child abuse and the abduction of a minor. He also filed a defamation lawsuit in response to her social media posts.
The court sentenced Ahreum’s mother, who was indicted without detention on charges of abducting a minor, to four months in prison with a one-year suspension.
Ahreum made her debut as a member of the girl group T-ara in July 2012 but left the group a year later in July 2013. She married a businessman two years her senior in October 2019, and the couple had two sons together. After their divorce, she continued to post allegations on social media. In December 2023, she revealed a new partner and announced plans to remarry, which drew significant public attention.
