Actor Choi Hyun Wook's agency has issued another apology regarding the fastball pitching controversy.
On October 13, Gold Medalist told Dispatch, "Choi Hyun Wook feels a deep sense of responsibility for what happened after the recent ceremonial first pitch event." The agency admitted that he should have been more alert to potential safety hazards as the pitcher adding, "We sincerely regret that we caused concern to many people."
Gold Medalist further apologized on the actor's behalf and said, "We sincerely apologize to the young batter and their guardian, who were likely startled by the unexpected situation."
They continued, "Today, we were able to contact the guardian through the team and have delivered a written apology. Thankfully, the young batter's family has been very understanding."
Choi Hyun Wook's management company also reflected on its own shortcomings, saying, "We acknowledge that our on-site management and prior coordination lacked thoroughness." They pledged to prevent a recurrence and said, "We will review our internal processes to ensure that such an incident does not happen again. We sincerely apologize once more."
Meanwhile, Choi Hyun Wook had thrown the first pitch during Game 1 of the KBO League semi-playoffs at Incheon SSG Landers Field on October 9, where a young fan stood as the batter.
The moment turned risky when his pitch flew near the child's head, shocking viewers and commentators.
On October 10, Choi Hyun Wook wrote on Bubble, a fan communication platform, "I should have thrown the ball slowly and from a closer distance since a young child was standing there, but I was so nervous that I didn't think of that. I'm truly sorry."
Choi had once played baseball as a catcher until his first year of high school, but had to quit the sport due to an elbow injury before debuting as an actor. His latest work was 'My Dearest Nemsis' alongside actress Moon Ga Young.
