The tragic news of YouTuber Great Library’s (46) death has also drawn attention to his ex-wife, fellow YouTuber Yumdaeng, who has reportedly faced online abuse in the wake of his passing.
According to the Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul, Great Library was found dead at his home in Gwangjin District at 8:40 a.m. on September 6. Authorities were alerted after friends reported that he had not shown up for a scheduled meeting and was unresponsive to calls. Police and fire officials arrived at the scene and discovered his body.
Following the sudden news, some internet users left malicious comments on Yumdaeng’s social media accounts. However, many others expressed messages of comfort and support, advising her not to blame herself or dwell on the criticism. Comments included sentiments such as, “I hope you don’t struggle too much” and “Don’t let yourself feel guilty about what happened. You must be shocked by the news, but you don’t need to pay attention to what trolls say.”
Great Library and Yumdaeng were married in 2015. At the time, Yumdaeng had a son from a previous marriage, and Great Library publicly embraced both her and her child, drawing attention for his generosity and care.
The couple divorced by mutual agreement in 2023, eight years after their wedding. At the time, Great Library explained, “A few months ago, we decided it would be better to remain good friends.” He emphasized that their separation was not due to any major conflict, saying, “It wasn’t because of anything bad. Over time, we both wanted to focus more on our work. We might have been better suited as friends rather than family, and living together caused some friction.”
He continued, “As these issues accumulated, we thought it would be better to live freely and remain friends. That’s why we decided to divorce.”
Great Library also noted that he maintained a close relationship with Yumdaeng after their divorce, stating, “We see each other once a week and keep in touch frequently. In fact, we became much closer after deciding to separate.”
