Seoul police have opened investigations into actor Kang Dong Won, singer 2NE1's CL, and trot star Song Ga In over allegations that they operated or conducted activities through unregistered entertainment agencies.
The Yongsan Police Station confirmed on September 19 that a complaint concerning Kang Dong Won and CL had been filed and assigned to its investigative unit. On the same day, a similar complaint targeting Song Ga In was allocated to the Seocho Police Station.
The complaints, submitted by a private citizen, claim that the celebrities established agencies without complying with mandatory registration requirements under the Act on the Development of the Public Culture and Arts Industry.
Article 26 of the Act stipulates that operating an entertainment management agency requires official registration. Violations may result in up to two years of imprisonment or fines of up to 20 million KRW (approximately $14,500).
The allegations come amid recent revelations that other celebrities, including Ock Joo Hyun and Sung Si Kyung, had also operated agencies without registration, raising questions over compliance within the entertainment industry.
