On September 5, Netflix confirmed that its new series 'As You Stood By' will premiere on November 7, unveiling a teaser poster and official trailer.
'As You Stood By' tells the story of two women who, faced with a reality where they must kill or be killed, decide to commit murder and are drawn into unexpected events. The series is based on the suspense novel 'Naomi and Kanako' by Hideo Okuda.
Directed by Lee Jung Rim, known for her stylish direction in dramas like 'Revenant' and 'VIP,' the show features a fresh cast lineup including Jeon So Nee, Lee Yoo Mi, Jang Seung Jo, and Lee Moo Saeng. Even before release, the series gained buzz and will first be introduced to audiences at the 30th Busan International Film Festival in the 'On Screen' section.
The newly released poster features Eun Soo (played by Jeon So Nee) and Hee Soo (portrayed by Lee Yoo Mi) standing in different spaces but seemingly facing each other. Eun Soo's blurred, shocked expression and Hee Soo's wounded face raise curiosity about the hellish reality they endured and the choices that brought them there. The tagline, "The most desperate conspiracy, the most uneasy happiness," underlines the drama's key theme.
The teaser trailer shows Eun Soo and Hee Soo trapped in their own traumas. The visuals captivate viewers by using rewind-style editing to symbolize a hell that keeps repeating. Eun Soo's narration, "All this time, I've just been running away," hints at her unresolved past, watching her mother suffer under her father's violence while she could only flee.
The trailer also shows Hee Soo's grim present. Stuck in an unhappy marriage, she laments, "I tried facing it, I tried running from it, but I always ended up back here." Just as Hee Soo is ready to end everything, Eun Soo stops her with the chilling words, "Let's kill him. Your husband." This desperate pact raises tension about where their story will go.
Hee Soo’s husband Jin Pyo (Jang Seung Jo), who showers her with expensive gifts while treating her with coercion, and So Baek (Lee Moo Saeng), a mysterious man whose true intentions remain hidden, add layers of suspense that heighten with the plot.
'As You Stood By' tells the story of two women who, to break free from a repeating cycle of hell, make the most desperate choice and stand together to reclaim an ordinary life. The series will premiere worldwide on Netflix on November 7.
