Can 'My Youth' manage to overturn its struggling viewership ratings and achieve a rebound?
The JTBC drama 'My Youth,' which premiered on September 5, has been seeing poor ratings, starting with 2.9% (Nielsen Korea, paid household standard) for the first episode, followed by 2.8% for episode 2, 2.2% for episode 3, and 2.4% for episode 4. Now, the episode broadcast on the 19th dropped to 1.9%, marking a humiliating low.
Amid this situation, attention is focusing on whether the romance between Seon Woo Hae (played by Song Joong Ki) and Sung Je Yeon (played by Chun Woo Hee) can pick up steam and trigger a surge in ratings.
In the last broadcast, Seon Woo Hae faced an unexpected crisis: he was diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare disease in Korea. Seon Woo Hae was left deeply unsettled after hearing the doctor's words that he didn't know how long he had left. It was Sung Je Yeon who made him smile again. She confessed to him at the end of the episode. At the end, he smiles brightly and confesses, "The world seems a bit beautiful."

Despite his diagnosis with an uncertain future, Seon Woo Hae had smiled at the confession of his "first love," Sung Je Yeon. But that joy seemed short-lived as Seon Woo Hae quickly lost that smile. Je Yeon also struggles with Woo Hae's gloom as she avoids eye contact with him. The moments they do meet eyes, it reflects the uncertainty and emotions they both feel.
In episode 6, Seon Woo Hae also visits his father, Seon Woo Chan (played by Jo Han Chul). Seon Woo Chan is initially happy to see his son, but that joy quickly dissipates as he is clearly flustered by Seon Woo Hae's anger. Attention is keenly focused on what Seon Woo Hae, who never asked for favors or expressed resentment toward his father, went to tell him during this first-ever visit.
Meanwhile, 'My Youth' initially was met with high anticipation before its premiere, with Song Joong Ki returning to a romance drama for the first time in 9 years. Many fans and drama viewers looked forward to the onscreen chemistry between Song Joong Ki and Chun Woo Hee, but the drama has yet to meet expectations.
