Kim Jong Kook surprises ‘Running Man’ cast with sudden wedding announcement—just 18 days before the ceremony
Singer and entertainer Kim Jong Kook left the 'Running Man' members stunned after suddenly announcing his upcoming wedding during the show’s opening segment on August 31 KST.
According to the broadcast, Kim informed his castmates about the wedding only 10 minutes before filming, with the wedding date set for September 5—a mere 18 days away. Member Ji Suk Jin was visibly shocked, asking, “Most people don’t know about this, right?” to which Yoo Jae Suk replied, “I just found out today.” Even close friend HaHa admitted, “I just learned a few minutes ago.”
What surprised the cast even more was Kim Jong Kook’s request for Yoo Jae Suk to emcee the ceremony—despite Yoo having a filming schedule on the same day. “He asked me to host the wedding. I checked and realized I have a shoot that day. I’ll have to reschedule somehow,” Yoo said, half-laughing and half-scolding. “But I’ll do it with class, don’t worry.”
While driving to the next filming location, the cast continued to express disbelief. Yoo added, “I was completely shocked this morning. I thought it was a joke.” HaHa noted that he, too, had schedule conflicts but “had to attend no matter what.”
The late notice has sparked debate online, with netizens criticizing the timing. Comments included:
“He should’ve told Yoo Jae Suk earlier if he was going to ask him to host,”
“This feels like an inconsiderate wedding,” and
“Yoo isn’t someone who would spill the news. It was unfair not to inform him earlier.”
However, many fans also sympathized, noting that Kim Jong Kook’s marriage had long been a “mission” for Running Man and likely required secrecy due to his celebrity status. Yet, viewers felt at least Yoo Jae Suk, being the MC, deserved a proper heads-up.
Kim had previously announced the marriage on August 18 via a handwritten letter posted on his official fan café. “I’ve always expected this day would come, but writing this still makes me nervous,” he shared, humorously adding, “It’s my 30th debut anniversary, and while I haven’t made the album I dreamed of, I found my other half instead.”
The bride’s identity remains undisclosed, and the wedding is set to be a private event in Seoul with only family and close friends in attendance.
