Former F.T Island member Song Seung Hyun has revealed his new chapter in life after officially retiring from the entertainment industry.
On September 9, Song posted a lengthy message on his personal account, reflecting on the challenges he faced after moving to New York last year. He wrote, “It’s already been a year since I wrapped up 15 years in the Korean entertainment industry and came to New York. Even the things I thought I had prepared for turned out to be entirely new challenges.”
He shared that his first job in New York was at his father’s soon-tofu restaurant, where he started from the bottom as a busboy and later worked as a server. “I thought I was humble as a celebrity, but in truth I was arrogant. There were moments I regretted deciding on immigration so easily. But I got through each day telling myself, ‘I did well today.’”
Song revealed that he is now preparing to acquire a Korean restaurant named Jinsang Gukbap with the money he saved back in Korea. “I may not feel the same dopamine as when I earned huge sums in just a few hours on stage, but I’ve come to love what I do now and I’m happy. I want to be a humble gukbap restaurant owner.”
He also expressed gratitude to his wife for standing by him during the transition and to his customers for supporting his journey.
Song Seung Hyun joined F.T Island as a guitarist in 2009 before leaving the band in 2019 to pursue acting. He officially retired from the entertainment industry in February 2023 and got married in June of the same year.
