Even before its premiere, the new drama set against a royal court backdrop has been creating massive buzz with its fresh concept and stellar cast. The release of its main trailer has only amplified anticipation, sparking an immediate and enthusiastic response from prospective viewers.
Following tvN's weekend drama 'Law and the City,' which ended with a peak rating of 7.7%, its successor 'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty' will premiere on August 23, and has unveiled its main preview video.
Directed by Jang Tae Yoo, written by fGRD, planned by Studio Dragon, and produced by Filmgrida and Jung Universe, the series follows tyrant Lee Heon (played by Lee Chae Min) and palace chef Yeon Ji Young (YoonA) as they navigate a chaotic royal life together. Director Jang Tae Yoo has previously drawn praise for his meticulous and high-quality storytelling in works such as 'Deep Rooted Tree,' 'My Love from the Star,' and 'Knight Flower.'

Official Main Trailer released
The trailer released on August 12 begins with Yeon Ji Young, an aspiring Michelin 3-star chef, triumphantly winning a French culinary competition, only to find herself unexpectedly transported into a royal court due to an unforeseen accident.
Pursued by a bow-wielding king, she is bound like a criminal, hinting at looming danger. Eventually, she reveals her profession to Lee Heon, who initially treats her as a ghost. Declaring, “I have no way of going back anyway, so I might as well go all in,” she serves unfamiliar dishes like steak and pasta. The once-skeptical Lee Heon forgets his royal decorum as he becomes enchanted by the exotic flavors, creating a humorous scene.

However, her presence draws the sharp gaze of Kang Mok Joo (Kang Han Na), the king’s concubine, who sees her as a rival for his attention. Ji Young dismisses suspicions with, “Nothing is going on between His Majesty and me,” but her playful bickering with Lee Heon only fuels Mok Joo’s jealousy. The tension escalates with glimpses of Mok Joo’s ominous expression and Ji Young bound in stocks, heightening curiosity about the story’s direction.
Exhausted by her precarious palace life, Ji Young eventually declares, “I want to go back,” desperately wishing to return to her own time. Whether she can survive both the tyrant and the concubine’s watchful eyes remains to be seen.
Anticipation over cast runs high

The chemistry between the leads is already a hot topic. Netizens who watched the trailer and behind-the-scenes clips commented: “The main preview is so well-made. Can’t wait for this week’s special broadcast,” “YoonA is so beautiful,” “Looking forward to Lee Chae Min and YoonA’s chemistry. I’ll be watching live from episode 1,” “The cast combination is already so fun. I want to see it soon,” “The Bon Appétit team chemistry is amazing. Excited for the palace entrance scene,” Their gestures are so heart-fluttering. They’re the best visual pairing, “They look similar in a way, and they’re both gorgeous,” and “Perfect casting for their roles - young tyrant and older chef pairing is going to be great.”
Hitmaker YoonA returns to the drama scene

YoonA returns as Yeon Ji Young, a Michelin 3-star restaurant chef with a bright and determined personality. After an unexpected time slip, she becomes the tyrant king’s chef in the Joseon era, navigating a thrilling and comical survival story. Known for her delicate acting and radiant visuals, YoonA has built a strong filmography with works like Exit (9.42 million viewers), the Confidential Assignment series, Miracle, Big Mouth, and King the Land. In King the Land, she played hotelier Cheon Sa Rang, achieving nationwide ratings of 13.8% and topping Netflix’s global chart in 2023, solidifying her title as a box office queen.
Lee Chae Min’s First Role as King

Lee Chae Min takes on his first royal role as Grand Prince Yeon Hee, Lee Heon, who possesses an extraordinary palate. Although he has the skills and intellect to be a great king, his abrasive personality and distrust have earned him the reputation of a tyrant within the palace. Suspicious of outsiders and even his food, he makes life difficult for royal chefs. With the ability to detect even subtle flavor differences, viewers are left wondering if there will ever come a day when he clears his royal table. Known for his soft charm in youth romance Bunny and the Boys, Lee Chae Min will showcase a darker transformation with a deep voice and piercing gaze.
YoonA's preparations for the role

A box office queen doesn’t earn the title for nothing - there’s always a reason. To perfectly portray Chef Yeon Ji Young, YoonA trained for about three months under a real chef, learning everything from using cooking tools to mastering various dishes. She revealed, “I learned the flambé technique (adding alcohol to a dish or sauce and igniting it to quickly burn off the alcohol), and I think I used it the most. Thanks to that, I became more confident while cooking, and while acting as Ji Young, I thought, ‘I can’t believe I can do this.’ It was my coolest performance.”

'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty' is a fresh fusion romance that tells the sweet yet perilous survival tale of a chef who time-slips into the past at the peak of her career and a tyrant king with an exceptional palate. The first episode airs on August 23 at 9:10 PM.
