The nightclub manager who was previously convicted of blackmailing the late actor Lee Sun Gyun has now been handed another prison sentence in a separate drug case.
On August 25, the Seoul High Court's Criminal Division 3 upheld a one-year prison sentence for the manager, identified as Kim, on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. This ruling mirrors her original sentence in the first trial.
Kim is already serving five years and six months in prison for extorting 300 million KRW (approx. 215,855 USD) from Lee Sun Gyun through blackmail. With the new one-year term added, she will now serve a total of six years and six months behind bars.
The court also ordered Kim to complete 40 hours of drug rehabilitation education, citing the high risk of repeat offenses and the serious drug crimes causing harm to society. She was charged with using methamphetamine and marijuana on three separate occasions in 2023. The court noted her record as a repeat offender, with six prior convictions for similar crimes, as a grave responsibility.
In the same case, a doctor from Gangnam, identified as 'A,' was accused of supplying Kim with methamphetamine, ketamine, and other substances between December 2022 and August 2023. While he was initially sentenced to two years in prison, the appeals court reduced his sentence to one year and six months after acquitting him of separate charges involving the purchase of liquid cannabis in 2021.
The court stated, "The nature of drug-related crimes makes them difficult to uncover, and there is a risk of repeat offense. Given the type and frequency of narcotics use in this case, the level of culpability cannot be considered light."
