Following his move to Los Angeles Football Club, Son Heung Min has set a new record in sports merchandise sales.
According to LAFC president John Thorrington, Son’s jersey is currently the top-selling jersey across all sports worldwide. This means his jersey has outsold jerseys from global stars such as Lionel Messi and LeBron James.
Thorrington revealed this in an interview with talkSPORT. He explained that since Son’s arrival, demand for his jersey has been extremely high. The president also noted that it has been two consecutive weeks where Son’s jersey sales have ranked number one, not just in Major League Soccer, but in all of sports.
Son Heung Min, who is 33 years old, joined LAFC after leaving Tottenham Hotspur. His transfer to the MLS was one of the most talked-about moves of the season.
In addition to his sports career, Son has occasionally made headlines outside of football. Long ago, he was rumored to have briefly dated Minah from Girl’s Day, which attracted attention from both sports and K-pop fans at the time.
With Son’s jersey sales reaching a global number one ranking, industry watchers believe his presence will bring even more attention to the MLS and to Korean athletes in international sports.
