Amid the dating-show boom, tvN has unveiled its latest rendition, ‘Date My Friend’. The dating show is based on the premise of celebrities matchmaking their close friends, whom they personally vouch for as “genuinely decent people,” the literal translation of the program title.
Hours before the premiere, the dating show teases contestants who are lookalikes of beloved stars like Kim Woo Bin and Seolhyun, building anticipation. Ji Ye Eun expresses interest in the Kim Woo Bin lookalike, stating that the actor is her ideal type, while Lee Gwan Hee, former contestant of the dating show 'Single's Inferno', aims to see a "Lee Gwan Hee 2.0", causing everyone to break out in laughter.
As their eight friends looking for love are situated at Geoje Island, the eight celebrities Jo Se Ho, Kang So Ra, Kim Nam Hee, Heo Young Ji, Lee Mi Joo, Ji Ye Eun, Kim Young Kwang, and Lee Gwan Hee observe them in the studio together.
With the wide range of matchmakers from different backgrounds, from actors to idols to comedians to athletes, the show has created much buzz as to the contestants whom will be introduced. Furthermore, the panel of celebrities will be watching their friends flirting and put in tense situations in real time, promising a more nerve-racking and refreshing commentary to the saturated genre.
