Today, the hit animated film has officially done it, smashing records with 236 million views and claiming the crown as Netflix’s most-watched movie ever, overtaking 'Red Notice.'
Variety reported on August 26 that 'K-Pop Demon Hunter' had set a new record on this day. According to the media outlet, the animated film of the summer is now the most-streamed movie in Netflix history.
Meanwhile, 'K-Pop Demon Hunter' follows a K-pop girl group who fight demons by night between sold-out stadium tours. Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who co-wrote the screenplay alongside Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, the film is based on a story conceived by Kang.
The voice cast features Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo Seop, May Hong, and Ji Young Yoo, while the original soundtrack, featuring contributions from hitmakers like Ejae, Jenna Andrews, Danny Chung, Ido, Vince, Kush, Daniel Rojas, Stephen Kirk, Lindgren, and Mark Sonnenblick, has also climbed music charts.
Premiering on June 20, 'K-Pop Demon Hunter' has been praised for its inventive world-building and infectious energy, with critics calling it both "high-concept" and "charming." With record-breaking numbers and a chart-topping soundtrack, the film has firmly established itself as Netflix’s defining success of the year.
